Different materials, different repairs
Acrylic
Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.
Roll-top and period baths
Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.
Bath re-enamelling in Bengeo, done in place
We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We work on basins & shower trays, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths, and common reasons people contact us are an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and wear marks under the taps.
Every job is backed for twelve months. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Bengeo
By the time a bath is a few decades old, it may have a mix of issues: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.
Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:
- A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
- A bath in a colour that no longer suits
- Lots of chips and rust spots
- A coating lifting around the plughole

- How long the guarantee is and what it covers
- What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
- Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
Questions from Bengeo
Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?
Most of the time. Let us know what was used before and we will plan for it.
Are you accredited?
We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.
Can you price it without visiting?
In nearly every case. If pictures don’t show enough, we will ask for another angle.
How long does re-enamelling last?
It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and our work is guaranteed for a year.
What happens once I’ve sent pictures?
We review the pictures and send a fixed quote and the next dates we have.
Can tenants book a repair?
Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.
Do you cover the entire of Hertfordshire?
All of Hertfordshire, and the rest of the UK. There is no extra charge for travel.
How long does re-enamelling take?
Most baths are done in a day and can be used the day after. We’ll confirm timings when we quote.

The process
You do not need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take a full day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.
- We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
- Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
- We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
- Primer and finish coats are applied.
- We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about parking or access
- Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
- Let us know which floor the room is on

Advice
Honest limits
We would rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:
- A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
- Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
- Steel that has corroded right through
Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
Surfaces we repair
- Cast iron baths
- Acrylic baths
- Victorian roll-tops
- Basins & shower trays
- Pressed steel baths
Should I try a DIY kit first?
If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.
For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.
Keeping it looking good
It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:
- Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
- Avoid suction-cup mats
- Get any chip repaired quickly
- Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
Dry the bath after use if possible, especially in hard water areas, and rinse off any bath products.
Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.
What bath re-enamelling costs
Prices start from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We take into account:
- Any earlier repairs that need removing first
- The material and finish
- Access to the area
- How much damage there is
We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Bengeo. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.
Getting a price from photos
Two or three clear photos are usually enough. Try to include:
- Natural light rather than flash
- Your postcode, so we can check dates
- A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
- A clear, close picture of the problem area
A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, include your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.
Why repair rather than replace?
If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is normally much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
