How we handle bath re-enamelling in Covingham

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, resurfacing is normally the best value. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. Our repair technicians work on Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths, and people most frequently call us about a bath in a colour that no longer suits and an old resurfacing that’s failing.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

When a repair isn’t the answer

A repair isn’t right for every job, for example:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths

Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Repairing versus replacing in Covingham

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Compared with replacing, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

The process

When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job usually takes most of the day. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Open a window if you can

Getting a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

Covingham: your questions answered

How do I get a price for bath re-enamelling in Covingham?

Resurfacing from £350. Because every job differs, we price from pictures. You’ll get a fixed figure before booking.

What areas do you cover?

All of Swindon, and the rest of the UK. There’s no extra charge for travel.

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

Normally, yes. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Mention it when you send photos.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You do not need to watch us work.

What happens next?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so the tiles and taps stay put.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The type of damage
  • Access to the area

We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Send pictures for a quote

Two or three clear photos are generally enough. Try to include:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Upload a photo of the damage and one of the entire item, with your SN3 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Covingham?

By the time a bath is a few decades old, it may have a mix of issues: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Resurfacing sorts them out together.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • Stains that won’t shift
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring

Before booking anyone

  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • When it can be used again
