Bath re-enamelling for Gaunt's Common homes

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. Each job gets its own fixed quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Access to the area
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The material and finish

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed price

Two or three clear photos are normally enough. Try to include:

  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Natural light rather than flash

If you’re in Gaunt's Common and want a price, pictures are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Bath re-enamelling in Gaunt's Common, done in place

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Common call-outs are for a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and an outdated colour you’d like to change, on pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and acrylic baths.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we will sort it.

What happens on the day

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. It normally takes the best part of a day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Gaunt's Common

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Most baths are done in a day, ready the day after. We’ll confirm timings when we quote.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside if you’d like.

Does re-enamelling smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, so we ventilate the room. It fades as the coating cures.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Gaunt's Common

The gloss on enamel is thin, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Stains that won’t shift
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring

Before you book anyone

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • How your room will be protected
  • How long it needs to cure

Choosing a repair company

For landlords and businesses

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Avoid suction-cup mats

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, especially in hard water areas, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

What we cannot put right

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
