Bath re-enamelling in Gibbonsdown without replacing anything
After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. We work on basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and Victorian roll-tops, and people most often call us about thin, worn enamel in places and a bath in a colour that no longer suits.
Every repair is covered by our one-year guarantee.

Repairs by material
Acrylic
We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.
Pressed steel
Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.
Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Gibbonsdown
Enamel doesn’t fail overnight. Abrasive cleaners, limescale and years of use dull the surface, typically first under the taps and around the waste.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- A coating lifting around the plughole
- A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
- Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
- Worn patches where water runs and sits
What to look for in a quote
- What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
- How soon you can use it again
- What aftercare is recommended
- How the room is protected while they work

For landlords and businesses
We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Gibbonsdown as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it generally costs far less than a refit.
We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we will handle the rest.
Why repair rather than replace?
Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Gibbonsdown. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Aftercare tips
After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Keep suction mats out of the bath
- Repair dripping taps early
- Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
- Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, especially in hard water areas, to stop limescale building up.
Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further.
Can I fix it myself?
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.
If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.
What happens on the day
The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. Protection goes down first, then the work takes most of the day. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to care for it.
- We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
- We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
- We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
- The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
- The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Gibbonsdown: your questions answered
Can you repair several things at once?
Of course, and it normally saves money. Just add the extra items to your pictures and you will get one combined price.
Is there any odour?
There can be some smell while we work. It clears as the materials cure.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure the landlord agrees.
Is my repair covered?
Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.
Is repairing better than replacing?
Normally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.
Can I get a quote without a visit?
Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos cannot show what we need.
Does the bath have to be removed?
No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.
Will the new finish last?
It depends on preparation, use and care. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and our work is guaranteed for a year.
What bath re-enamelling costs
Resurfacing from £350. We give every job a fixed price from photos. These are the things that affect it:
- How much damage there is
- Doing more than one item at once
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- What kind of damage it is
No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
How to get a fixed quote
You can take the pictures on your phone, there’s no need for anything special. Just make sure we can see:
- Natural light rather than flash
- Any earlier repairs or coatings
- A wider photo showing the entire bath
- Where you are, by postcode
To get a price, send two or three photos using our quote form or ring us. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.
