Bath re-enamelling in Hawthorn Hill

Bath re-enamelling in Hawthorn Hill, done in place

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. We regularly repair acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and pressed steel baths, and the jobs we see most are a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and a coloured bath you want in white.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee.

The process

Your technician turns up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take a full day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Preparing for the visit

Hawthorn Hill questions

Does re-enamelling smell?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

What happens if you find more damage?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in Hawthorn Hill?

Resurfacing from £350. Because every job differs, we price from pictures. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

Why us?

  • Same prices wherever you are
  • No need to remove anything
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • One-year guarantee on every repair

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Honest limits

Not everything can be repaired, and we will tell you before we start. Repairs will not solve:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. We price every job individually. The main factors are:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • What the surface is made of

A repair generally costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Quotes from your pictures

Before you send photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • Any details about the material
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Most clients in Hawthorn Hill get their price from pictures. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Common problems we fix in Hawthorn Hill

Older baths often have several problems at once: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • How the room is protected while they work
