Bath re-enamelling in Hinxton

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Hinxton

Most baths are re-enamelled in a day, and you can use the bath the following day. Nothing is disconnected or removed. Our repair technicians work on acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays, and people most often call us about an outdated colour you’d like to change and chips and rust in more than one place.

Every repair is covered by a one-year guarantee.

When a repair is not the answer

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we would rather say so up front. We can’t fix:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays

How the visit works

When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job typically takes most of the day. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the day after.

How to prepare

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

How to get a price

Repair or replace: which is better?

A replacement often means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, typically one day, with the bath back in use the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Hinxton

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, and only the surface is worn. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is usually as strong as ever.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean

Aftercare tips

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use

Dry the bath after use if possible, especially in hard water areas, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

What affects the price in Hinxton

Prices start from £350. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The material
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Doing more than one item at once

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Send photos for a quote

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what to send:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Any details about the material
  • One picture of the whole bath

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can give you a fixed quote without visiting.

Hinxton: your questions answered

What areas do you cover?

The entire UK, including all of Essex. Just include your postcode and we will offer you dates.

Is there a smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

What happens after I send pictures?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Do you come to Hinxton?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and come to Hinxton and the rest of Essex. Send us photos for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

How do I book?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
