Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Bath re-enamelling in Millington Green, done in place

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, resurfacing is normally the best value. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Our technicians work on cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths, and people most often call us about thin, worn enamel in places and a coloured bath you want in white.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Millington Green as everywhere else we work.

When to call us in Millington Green

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, peeling around the waste or bubbling. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits

What to look for in a quote

  • Who will actually do the work
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges

Looking after it afterwards

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Store bottles off the bath

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, do not use suction bath mats, and do not leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

What we can’t put right

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A bath split right through the body
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths

Work for landlords and builders

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams in Derbyshire and across the UK. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. You will not pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

How to get a fixed quote

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

For a price in Millington Green, pictures are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Why repair rather than replace?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Resurfacing takes one technician and generally a day. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why book with us

  • Repair technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • Fixed prices from your photos
  • One visit for most repairs
  • A year’s guarantee on all work

See our prices page and resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

What we do, step by step

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which normally takes a full day. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Open a window if you can
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Let us know about parking or access

How to get a price

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. There is no charge for the quote and you are under no obligation.
