Bath re-enamelling in Newhaven, done in place

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. Common call-outs are for a peeling or bubbling previous coating and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it, in basins & shower trays, Victorian roll-tops and cast iron baths.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. You will not pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • The type of damage
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How many areas need work
  • Unusual colours or finishes

We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for Newhaven. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Where you are, by postcode

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.

What we are called out for in Newhaven

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, with nothing wrong except the surface. The body of the bath is normally perfectly sound.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping

Comparing quotes

  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • How long it needs to cure
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match

Our hiring checklist

DIY repairs versus a professional job

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

Honest limits

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Repairing versus replacing in Newhaven

Replacing a bath typically involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, with the bath ready the day after. Prices start from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing usually costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

What you get with us

  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • Everything repaired in place

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

How the visit works

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, protect the area, then carry out the work, which normally takes the best part of a day. If anything looks different from your photos, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Getting a price

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.
