Bath re-enamelling in Rubha Ban without replacing anything

If your bath is sound but looks tired, re-enamelling is usually the most cost-effective option. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. We regularly repair acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and a bath in a colour that no longer suits.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Rubha Ban: your questions answered

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, most people go for white. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

Is my repair covered?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed price. You’re under no obligation.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before and we will plan for it.

Which areas do you work in?

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. There is no charge for travel to Rubha Ban. The price depends on:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • The material and finish
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How much damage there is

Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

How to get a fixed price

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through.

Keeping it looking good

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Holes rusted through the metal

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

What we are called out for in Rubha Ban

A dull surface stains and holds dirt, and scrubbing it wears it down further. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough

What to look for in a quote

  • How the colour is matched
  • How long it needs to cure
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges

Our hiring checklist

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

Repairing versus replacing in Rubha Ban

Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Re-enamelling is one technician, typically one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

What we do, step by step

Here’s how a visit typically runs: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, do the job and tidy away. Allow a full day from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
