Trusted bath re-enamelling in Rubislaw

Looking after it afterwards

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Get any chip repaired quickly

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, particularly with hard water, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Bath re-enamelling in Rubislaw without replacing anything

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. Whether it’s a roll-top that’s seen better days and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, we can help, on cast iron baths, acrylic baths and Victorian roll-tops alike.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will come back.

What a repair cannot fix

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • A bath that is rusted through

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Why repair rather than replace?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is typically much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s also far quicker. Prices start from £350. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Rubislaw. The price reflects:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Quotes from your pictures

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • The material, if you know it
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

What areas do you cover?

We work UK-wide, so Rubislaw is covered. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can pets and children be at home?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

What happens after I send photos?

We look at the pictures and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we’ll ask for another photo.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Normally, yes. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Mention it when you send pictures.

Do the materials smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied. It fades as everything cures.

How the visit works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Then the area is sheeted and masked and the work begins. It normally takes the best part of a day.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

Ask for a price

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Advice

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
