Bath re-enamelling for Sandness homes

Why repair rather than replace?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is typically much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Why book with us

  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • No extra charge for your area

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Sandness

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, so we don’t cut corners on it. We are often asked to fix a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and several chips and rust patches, across acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and cast iron baths.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Sandness as everywhere else we work.

How to care for the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, particularly with hard water, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

What we’re called out for in Sandness

Older baths often have several problems at once: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

When we’d advise against a repair

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths

What happens on the day

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes a full day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

Advice

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. You will not pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • The material and finish
  • The type of damage
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Quotes from your pictures

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Any details about the material
  • One picture of the entire bath

A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

For landlords and businesses

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams in the Shetland Islands and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

If you manage property in Sandness, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send photos for each one and we will come back with a combined price.
