Bath re-enamelling in Small Way

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Small Way

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. We work on acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and pressed steel baths, and people most often call us about a bath in a colour that no longer suits and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Small Way and across Somerset.

  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • Thin, worn enamel in places

Choosing a repair company

What a repair can’t fix

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Small Way questions

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Generally, yes. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

Do you cover the entire of Somerset?

All of Somerset, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

How long is the bath unusable?

Most baths are done in a day, ready the following day. We give you timings with the quote.

Can tenants book a repair?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send pictures with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. There’s no area surcharge for Small Way. The price reflects:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many areas need work
  • The type of damage

What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

How to get a fixed quote

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A picture taken from further back
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

To get a price, send a couple of photos using our quote form or ring us. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

How the visit works

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take most of the day.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Get a quote

Send us pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, and tell us you’re in Small Way, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Advice

Work for landlords and builders

Letting agents often send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Repair or replace in Small Way?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why Small Way clients choose us

  • No need to remove anything
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Typically one visit, start to finish
  • Colour mixed on the day to match

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.
