Bath re-enamelling in Weston, done in place

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. We are often asked to fix wear marks under the taps and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough, in Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and cast iron baths.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Weston: your questions answered

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders across Suffolk.

What happens if you find more damage?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Will there be fumes?

Yes, while we are applying the finish. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Can you quote from photos?

Nearly always. If pictures don’t show enough, we will ask for another angle.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes. Inside and out if you’d like.

Is the work guaranteed?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

When to call us in Weston

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and scrubbing it wears it down further. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Look out for any of the following:

  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • Stains that won’t shift
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • A coating lifting around the plughole

Comparing quotes

  • How your room will be protected
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • What prep work is covered

Choosing a repair company

Looking after it afterwards

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Repair or replace: which is better?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

How the visit works

You do not need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. It normally takes a full day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

Getting a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

Advice

Landlord and trade work in Weston

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, pictures and access details and we’ll arrange it.

If you manage property in Weston, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send pictures for each address and we’ll price them together.

DIY kit or professional repair?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.
