Before and after: a damaged acrylic bath corner repaired in place

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • How much damage there is
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • What the surface is made of

There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

How to get a fixed quote

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Any details about the material

Upload a picture of the damage and one of the entire item, with your LS14 postcode, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Aftercare tips

To keep it looking its best:

  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Do not scrub with anything abrasive

Look after the repair the same way as the bath: a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs. Avoid scourers and gritty cream cleaners.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

Repairing versus replacing in Arthursdale

For damage in one or two places, a repair is the obvious choice. It costs far less than a new bath plus fitting, it’s done in one visit, and the bathroom stays exactly as it is. Prices start from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

What we can’t put right

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

The process

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so you know exactly what we are doing. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. It normally takes two to three hours for most chips, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

How to get a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Arthursdale questions

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

In most cases. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so we need access under the bath.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

In most cases. Photos of the hole and the underside help us check.

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Do you come to Arthursdale?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Arthursdale. Send pictures and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

How do I book?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

How long before I can use the bath?

Normally by the following day, though it depends on what we’ve done.
