Bath repair in Box's Shop

How we handle bath repair in Box's Shop

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Whether it’s a hole punched through by something heavy and cracks in an acrylic bath, we can help, on pressed steel enamel, cast iron enamel and roll-top & freestanding alike.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months in Box's Shop and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Why repair rather than replace?

People often assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. In most cases it doesn’t: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement. Our bath repair starts from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

What you get with us

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Work done at your home or business
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing

Read our prices page and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Can I fix it myself?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, especially around the waste, so repair chips early.

Do you need bath repair in Box's Shop?

Damage during fitting is very common. Tradespeople drop tools and tiles into the bath, often before anyone notices. We repair snagging damage like this regularly.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail
  • A failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting
  • A chip where the taps sit

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Who will actually do the work
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Deal with new chips early, before rust sets in.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through until it’s repaired. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

What happens on the day

We turn up when we said we would and checks the damage against your pictures first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. Most visits take a few hours, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Open a window if you can
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

Box's Shop: your questions answered

Do you cover Box's Shop?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and come to Box's Shop and the rest of Cornwall. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Will the repair last?

Yes, if it’s prepared properly and the bath is sound. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, so the repair isn’t disturbed while it cures.

Do you cover the whole of Cornwall?

We work UK-wide, so Box's Shop is covered. Prices do not change with location.

Do you charge for travel?

We don’t add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Are you accredited?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. If there’s more, we will tell you before starting.

Work for landlords and builders

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there is no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access and we will arrange it.

What a repair can’t fix

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before you book.
