Aftercare tips

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine, avoiding abrasives.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

About our bath repair in Clay Common

A damaged bath does not have to mean a new bathroom. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, mixing the colour on the day so the repair is hard to spot. We are frequently asked to fix holes from dropped items and deep scratches in acrylic, across cast iron enamel, pressed steel enamel and whirlpool & spa baths.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months. We return to put right any problem with the work.

When a repair is not the answer

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • A steel bath rusted through
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What happens on the day

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, then carry out the work, which normally takes two to three hours for most chips. If anything looks different from your pictures, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Repair or replace in Clay Common?

Many people think a damaged bath means a new one. In most cases it does not: a proper repair gives it years more use, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement. Our bath repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. You will know the full cost before booking. We look at:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Unusual colours or finishes

A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Getting a price from photos

You can take the photos on your phone. Ensure they show:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Upload pictures of the damage and one of the whole item, and tell us you’re in Clay Common, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.
