About our bath repair in Clifford

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, while cracks in acrylic grow each time the bath moves. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Whether it’s scuffs and scratches in the surface and rust by the waste and overflow, we can help, whatever the material.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Clifford and across Leeds.

Aftercare tips

To keep it looking its best:

  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long

Do not leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

What affects the price in Clifford

Repairs from £95. You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The type of damage
  • What the surface is made of

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed quote

Two or three clear pictures are usually enough. Try to include:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

Send us a photo of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, with your LS23 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

How it works

We agree an arrival time beforehand. Once we are there, the work takes a morning or an afternoon. We leave the room clean and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, generally the next day.

How to prepare

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Open a window if you can

Why repair rather than replace?

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and replacing like for like is not cheap. A repair keeps it in place. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

Why book with us

  • A fixed quote before you book

Common questions in Clifford

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes, coloured baths are no problem. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we have finished.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. We take it back to sound metal, seal it, fill it and match the colour.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Will I be able to see the repair?

On a glossy bath, you will struggle to find it. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

When to call us in Clifford

Dropped items cause the majority of chips, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

Most people contact us after spotting something like this:

  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Holes from dropped items

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • If travel is included in the price
  • Who turns up on the day
  • How the colour is matched

How to compare quotes

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

What a repair can’t fix

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.
