Need bath repair in Clotton?

Why repair rather than replace?

People often assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. Generally it doesn’t: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it. Prices start from £95. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

About our bath repair in Clotton

Bath repair is our most common job. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all repaired in place, generally in a single visit. If you are dealing with a hole punched through by something heavy and snagging damage from a refit, we can help, on roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and pressed steel enamel alike.

All our work is covered by our one-year guarantee.

Clotton: your questions answered

Is there a guarantee?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Normally by the following day, though it depends on what we have done.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes, often. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Normally, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so let us know about it.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Regularly. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

Do you cover the entire of Cheshire West and Chester?

We work UK-wide, so Clotton is covered. Prices don’t change with location.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes, we match coloured baths too. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

How the visit works

Here’s how a visit typically runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Allow a few hours, depending on the damage. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

Advice

For landlords and businesses

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, so there is no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Do not scrub with anything abrasive
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, because they can mark the enamel. And fix dripping taps promptly.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.

When a repair is not the answer

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’ll tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, which makes it well worth repairing.

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

Do you need bath repair in Clotton?

A bath gets knocked about more than you’d think: bottles, shower heads and razors are dropped every day, and taps and wastes are tightened against the surface. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting
  • Chips caused by builders
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • A chipped rim or side
