Before and after: a damaged acrylic bath corner repaired in place

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. There’s no charge for travel to Cross Lane. The price comes down to:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Quotes from your pictures

Phone photos are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Just ensure we can see:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.

Cross Lane: your questions answered

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We come back with a fixed price. There’s no obligation to book.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We remove the rust and loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Will there be a smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

Will the repair show?

We aim for a repair you cannot easily find. The rest of the bath’s condition makes a difference.

Do you charge for travel?

There is no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Can you quote from photos?

Yes, almost always. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before.

What happens on the day

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, then carry out the work, which typically takes a morning or an afternoon. If anything looks different from your pictures, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. Once it has cured, generally by the day after, the bath is ready to use.

How to prepare

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Getting a price

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them to us with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed quote back. There’s no charge for the quote and you’re under no obligation.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, just like other baths.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, a new panel is frequently needed, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. A repair skips all of it. Prices start from £95. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

Why Cross Lane customers choose us

  • Normally one visit, start to finish
  • Work done at your home or business
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish

For landlords and businesses

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Cross Lane as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it costs much less than replacing.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. We can visit several plots in one trip.

What a repair can’t fix

We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel

How to look after the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath

Treat the repaired area like the rest of the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so early repair keeps the cost down.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.
