Bath repair in Darsham

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, just like other baths.

Bath repair in Darsham, done in place

Chips, cracks, rust spots and small holes can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. Nothing is unplumbed, the tiles aren’t touched, and the repaired area is colour-matched so it blends in. We regularly repair cast iron enamel, acrylic and pressed steel enamel, and the jobs we see most are impact holes in acrylic and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

Darsham: your questions answered

What about rust by the waste?

Yes, very often. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos cannot show what we need.

Do the materials smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It fades as everything cures.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this frequently. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Usually. Photos of the hole and the underside help us check.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

Most of the time. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so we need access under the bath.

Should you replace it?

Many people think a damaged bath means a new one. In most cases it does not: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement. Prices start from £95. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

Why Darsham clients choose us

  • One-year guarantee on every repair
  • Fixed prices from your pictures
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Colour-matched on site

How to look after the repair

To keep it looking its best:

  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Don’t leave a fresh chip for long
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before running a bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

Small chips are quick to repair. Left alone, they stain and can rust, so it’s worth getting them done early.

How it works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take a morning or an afternoon, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Common problems we fix in Darsham

Baths take more knocks than people expect: everyday items get dropped into it all the time, and taps and wastes are tightened against the surface. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

  • Holes from dropped items
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • A chipped rim or side

  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers

  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
