Before and after: a damaged acrylic bath corner repaired in place

For landlords and businesses

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Eldon Lane use us as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it usually costs far less than a refit.

When to call us in Eldon Lane

Glass and heavy bottles cause more chips than anything else, closely followed by shower heads. Taps and wastes cause problems too: water collects there, so chips nearby rust quickly.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Chips under the taps
  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Holes from dropped items

Before booking anyone

  • What preparation is included
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges

Choosing a repair company

Eldon Lane: your questions answered

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

In most cases. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so we need access under the bath.

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes, very often. We take it back to sound metal, seal it, fill it and match the colour.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

Is a bath repair durable?

Yes, if it’s prepared properly and the bath is sound. It carries our one-year guarantee.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

How long before I can use the bath?

Normally by the following day, depending on the repair.

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use

Care for the repair the same way as the bath: a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so early repair keeps the cost down.

How we price bath repair

Prices start from £95. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We look at:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Access to the area

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Send pictures for a quote

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Any details about the material
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them to us with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price. Quotes are free and no obligation.

How it works

We begin by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Then the area is sheeted and masked and the work begins. You can expect it to take a few hours, depending on the damage, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

How to get a price

We price from pictures so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

When we would advise against a repair

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

DIY kit or professional repair?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.
