Bath repair in Gilroyd

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

About our bath repair in Gilroyd

We see every kind of bath damage: dropped-bottle chips, plughole rust, acrylic cracks and impact holes. Each is repaired in place with a one-year guarantee. Whether it’s rusty patches near the plughole and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted, we can usually put it right.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee in Gilroyd and across Barnsley.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, a new panel is often needed, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. A repair skips all of it. Prices start from £95. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Why book with us

  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Normally one visit, start to finish

See our prices page and resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

What happens on the day

You do not need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. It generally takes two to three hours for most chips, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. Each job gets its own fixed price. This is what makes a difference:

  • The type of damage
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Gilroyd. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

How to get a fixed price

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

If you are in Gilroyd and want a price, the easiest route is photos: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

What happens next?

We look at the pictures and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

Nearly always. If pictures don’t show enough, we will ask for another angle.

Do you work in Gilroyd?

We do. Technicians travel to Gilroyd from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Something went through my bath. Can it be fixed?

In most cases. Send us a photo of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Looking after it afterwards

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

There is nothing special to do after a repair. Skip bleach and gritty creams.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so it pays to deal with it early.

For landlords and businesses

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Gilroyd use us as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it costs much less than replacing.

When a repair isn’t the answer

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
