Bath repair for Greenwich homes

About our bath repair in Greenwich

Bath repair is our most common job. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, usually in a single visit. We work on cast iron enamel, acrylic and roll-top & freestanding, and people most often call us about snagging damage from a refit and chips along the edge of the bath.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Repair or replace: which is better?

For damage in one or two places, a repair is the obvious choice. It costs far less than a new bath plus fitting, it’s done in one visit, and the bathroom stays exactly as it is. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

How we price bath repair

Prices start from £95. There’s no charge for travel to Greenwich. The price comes down to:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Access to the area
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • What kind of damage it is

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed price

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Something in shot to show the size

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

What we do, step by step

We begin by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and we start. You can expect it to take a few hours, depending on the damage, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, normally the next day.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Signs you need bath repair in Greenwich

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and building work is a common culprit. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • A failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail

How to compare quotes

Greenwich questions

Do you come to Greenwich?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Greenwich and the rest of Greater London. Send us photos for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

Is a bath repair permanent?

A properly prepared repair should last a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year. Gentle cleaning helps.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

In most cases. Photos of the hole and the underside help us check.

How to look after the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before running a bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, to keep water out. Remove it before the repair.

What we can’t put right

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs will not solve:

  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.

What we work on

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
