How we handle bath repair in Hammerwich

A damaged bath does not have to mean a new bathroom. Our repair technicians fill, shape and refinish the damage, with the colour mixed on site so the repair is hard to spot. Whether it’s rusty patches near the plughole and chips under the taps, we can normally put it right.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Common problems we fix in Hammerwich

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On enamelled baths, a chip that reaches the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

Look out for these signs:

  • A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • Chips along the edge of the bath

10 questions to ask before booking

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

Work for landlords and builders

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Hammerwich questions

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

Frequently, yes, if we can reach the underside to reinforce it. Check under the bath panel, or send us a picture.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes, we match coloured baths too. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this frequently. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied. It fades as everything cures.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

You will get a fixed quote back, generally with dates to choose from. There is no obligation to book.

How long before I can use the bath?

Most baths can be used the next day. We’ll tell you the exact curing time when we finish.

How quickly can you book me in?

That depends on our diary for your area. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Hammerwich. The price reflects:

  • How many areas need work
  • What the surface is made of
  • Access to the area
  • The type of damage

We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Send pictures for a quote

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any details about the material
  • Details of any past repairs

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath, we can give you a fixed price.

Honest limits

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • A steel bath rusted through

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel

Why repair rather than replace?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the whole surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Our bath repair starts from £95. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Hammerwich. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK

How it works

We agree an arrival time beforehand. Once we’re there, the work takes two to three hours for most chips for most jobs. We leave the room clean.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the day after.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
