Bath repair near Hanwell

Repairing versus replacing in Hanwell

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. A repair keeps it in place. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

What you get with us

  • Work done at your home or business
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • Colour mixed on the day to match

How we handle bath repair in Hanwell

Bath repair is our most common job. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in one visit. Whether it’s snagging damage from a refit and rust by the waste and overflow, we can usually put it right, on acrylic, cast iron enamel and roll-top & freestanding alike.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

What we can’t put right

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.

What we work on

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic

Can I fix it myself?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What happens on the day

Here’s how a visit generally runs: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and tidy away. Plan for a morning or an afternoon from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can typically use the bath the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Hanwell: your questions answered

How long before I can use the bath?

Normally by the following day, depending on the repair.

Do you cover the entire of Greater London?

Everywhere in the UK, Hanwell included. There’s no extra charge for travel.

Will the repair last?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It carries our one-year guarantee.

Will I be able to see the repair?

We aim for a repair you can’t easily find. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath, and we’ll tell you what to expect.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Frequently, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Check under the bath panel, or send us a picture.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted

Don’t leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. And fix dripping taps promptly.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so it pays to deal with it early.

Signs you need bath repair in Hanwell

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On steel and cast iron baths, any chip down to the metal will start to rust.

People typically call us when they notice something like this:

  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • A hole punched through by something heavy

Questions to ask before booking

  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
  • Who turns up on the day
  • How the colour is matched
