How we handle bath repair in Hook
Repairing baths is what we do most. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all repaired in place, usually in a single visit. We regularly repair pressed steel enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and roll-top & freestanding, and the jobs we see most are a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting and chips caused by builders.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll come back.

What happens on the day
You do not need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. It normally takes a few hours, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.
- We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
- We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
- We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
- Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
- We leave it to cure; you can generally use the bath the day after.
Before we arrive
- Have a window or extractor fan available
- Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
- Clear the area around the damage

How to care for the repair
After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it
- Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
- Do not scrub with anything abrasive
- Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.
Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, so water cannot get in. Remove it before the repair.
When a repair isn’t the answer
We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:
- A steel bath rusted through
- A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
- A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Hook questions
Can rust on a bath be repaired?
Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.
Are you a vetted contractor?
Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.
Do you repair coloured baths?
Yes, we match coloured baths too. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.
Do you do work for letting agents?
We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.
Can you quote from photos?
Yes, almost always. Clear photos let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.
Do you come to Hook?
We do. We send a technician to Hook for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.
Can tenants book a repair?
Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
Are there extra charges for Hook?
Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Materials and what they mean for the repair
Pressed steel
Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.
Acrylic
Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.
DIY kit or professional repair?
A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.
What bath repair costs
Repairs from £95. We price every job individually, from your photos. The main factors are:
- What kind of damage it is
- The colour and finish to match
- The material
- Whether we combine several jobs
No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
Send pictures for a quote
You can take the pictures on your phone. Ensure they show:
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
- Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
- One sharp close-up of the damage
- Any details about the material
Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them to us with your postcode, and you will get a fixed quote back. Quotes are free and you’re under no obligation.
Do you need bath repair in Hook?
Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On steel and cast iron baths, a chip that reaches the metal will start to rust.
You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:
- Chips along the edge of the bath
- Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
- Damage beneath the taps
- A cracked acrylic bath
What your quote should include
- When it can be used again
- How your room will be protected
- What preparation is included
- Whether a trained technician does the job
Repairing versus replacing in Hook
When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Prices start from £95. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.
