Bath repair for Liff homes

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

Bath repair in Liff without replacing anything

You don’t need a new bath because of a chip. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, mixing the colour on the day so the repair is hard to spot. We regularly repair acrylic, whirlpool & spa baths and roll-top & freestanding, and the jobs we see most are a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting and chips along the edge of the bath.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. There’s no area surcharge for Liff. The price reflects:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • What the surface is made of
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Liff. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

How to get a fixed quote

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • The material, if you know it

Upload a picture of the damage and one of the whole item, and tell us you are in Liff, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

For anyone letting property in or around Liff, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send pictures for each one and we will price them together.

How it works

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take a few hours, depending on the damage, including clearing up.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can generally use the bath the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

How to get a price

If you are in Liff and want a price, the easiest route is photos: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Advice

How to care for the repair

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot

Don’t leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

What we can’t put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

Choosing a repair company

Liff: your questions answered

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners across Dundee.

Do I need to be at home?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can pets and children be at home?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, so the repair is not disturbed while it cures.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

Frequently, if there is access underneath. The hole is backed, filled and refinished to match.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Most baths can be used the following day. We confirm the time before we leave.

Will the repair last?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It carries our one-year guarantee.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

Will I be able to see the repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour-matched repair is very hard to spot. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.
