Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Have new chips seen to early

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

Bath repair at your home in Mabgate

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. The method changes with the material: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. We work on pressed steel enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and roll-top & freestanding, and the jobs we see most are chips along the edge of the bath and hairline or through cracks in acrylic.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once we’ve gone.

Should you replace it?

A repair makes sense whenever the damage is localised. It’s a fraction of the cost of a new bath and fitting, it’s done in one visit, and nothing else in the room changes. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. A repair typically costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

What happens on the day

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Then the area is sheeted and masked and we start. You can expect it to take two to three hours for most chips, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

Advice

What we cannot put right

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding

For landlords and businesses

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs in Leeds and across the UK. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Signs you need bath repair in Mabgate

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On enamelled baths, any chip down to the metal will start to rust.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • Damage beneath the taps

DIY kit or professional repair?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.
