Bath repair in Melbourn without replacing anything

Most bath damage, from chips and cracks to rust spots and holes, can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. Nothing is unplumbed, your tiles stay as they are, and the finish is matched to the rest of the bath. Common call-outs are for an old repair that has yellowed or come loose and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted, across roll-top & freestanding, pressed steel enamel and acrylic.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re covered after the visit.

What we’re called out for in Melbourn

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On enamelled baths, a chip that reaches the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Chips caused by builders
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic

10 questions to ask before booking

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

Should you replace it?

A repair makes sense whenever the damage is localised. It’s a fraction of the cost of a new bath and fitting, it takes one visit, and the bathroom stays exactly as it is. Our bath repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

What you get with us

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.

What happens on the day

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so you know exactly what we are doing. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and we start. Allow a few hours.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, typically the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Let us know about parking or access

Honest limits

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel

Looking after it afterwards

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, as they can leave rust marks. And fix dripping taps promptly.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.

What affects the price in Melbourn

Repairs from £95. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We take into account:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How many areas need work

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

How to get a fixed quote

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A picture taken from further back

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Melbourn: your questions answered

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

Is there any odour?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working, which fades afterwards.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes, we do this frequently. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

When can I have a bath again?

Normally by the following day, depending on the repair.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide. Prices don’t change with location.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.
