Bath repair in Mellis without replacing anything

Whatever has happened to the bath, we aim for the same result: a repair that is smooth, sound and hard to spot. We prepare the area properly, fill and shape it, then match the colour and gloss so it’s level with the surrounding surface. Typical jobs include snagging damage from a refit and cracks in an acrylic bath, across whirlpool & spa baths, roll-top & freestanding and cast iron enamel.

Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

How the visit works

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you know when to expect us. On site, it takes a few hours for most jobs. We leave the room clean and you will know when it can be used.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. Once it has cured, typically by the following day, the bath is ready to use.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Advice

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. You will not pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • Access to the area
  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How much damage there is

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Getting a price from pictures

You can generally get a fixed price without us visiting. To make it quick:

  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Send us a picture of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, with your IP23 postcode, and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Signs you need bath repair in Mellis

Rust tends to begin where water collects, by the plughole, beneath dripping taps or in an unrepaired chip. Water on bare metal causes rust that creeps under the surrounding enamel.

If you can see any of these, send us a picture:

  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • Chips along the edge of the bath

  • If travel is included in the price

Our hiring checklist

Why repair rather than replace?

People frequently assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. Generally it doesn’t: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it. Prices start from £95. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why book with us

  • Everything repaired in place
  • Straight answers about what a repair can do
  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • Most jobs done in one visit

Mellis: your questions answered

What areas do you cover?

Across the UK, so Mellis is covered. Prices do not change with location.

What information do you need?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes. The colour is mixed on site to suit your bath, including older coloured suites.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes. We take out the old repair and do it properly. Mention it when you send pictures.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

What we can’t put right

Not everything can be repaired, and we will tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding

Aftercare tips

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale

Do not leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and water can get through to the floor below.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, especially around the waste, so early repairs matter.

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.
