How we handle bath repair in Podmore

Bath repair is our most common job. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all repaired in place, normally in one visit. Our repair technicians work on roll-top & freestanding, pressed steel enamel and cast iron enamel, and common reasons people contact us are holes from dropped items and snagging damage from a refit.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and replacing like for like isn’t cheap. A repair keeps it in place. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

What you get with us

  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • No need to remove anything
  • Free fixed quotes from pictures
  • We leave the room as we found it

What we do, step by step

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. It generally takes a few hours, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Open a window if you can
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Related advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

Common questions in Podmore

Can you price it without visiting?

Generally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes, we match coloured baths too. We tint the finish to your bath on site.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

What happens after I send pictures?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Usually, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a photo.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Regularly. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

Do you cover Podmore?

We do. Technicians travel to Podmore from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

How we price bath repair

Prices start from £95. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. These are the things that affect it:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Compared with replacing, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

How to get a fixed quote

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Make sure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before using the bath. After that, gentle cleaning keeps it looking good.

A small chip is a quick job. Left alone, they stain and can rust, so it’s worth getting them done early.

What we can’t put right

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel

What we are called out for in Podmore

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • Chips caused by builders
  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Chips under the taps

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • Who will actually do the work
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
