Bath repair for Southwold homes

Bath repair in Southwold, done in place

We repair just the damaged spot and colour-match it to the bath, which is far cheaper than replacing a fitted bath. You can generally use the bath the day after. We regularly repair acrylic, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel, and the jobs we see most are deep scratches in acrylic and rust spots around the plughole.

All our work is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Suffolk.

Before and after: a damaged acrylic bath corner repaired in place

Should you replace it?

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and replacing like for like is not cheap. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Our bath repair starts from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why book with us

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Work done at your home or business
  • Rooms protected and left tidy

See our full price list or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we work on

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. Prices are worked out job by job, from your pictures. What matters most is:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How many areas need work
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

Compared with replacing, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Getting a price from pictures

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what to send:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Any details about the material
  • Details of any past repairs

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three photos through our quote form or ring us. We will tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

Your questions about bath repair in Southwold

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.

Which areas do you work in?

Everywhere in the UK, Southwold included. Travel is included in the price.

Is a bath repair durable?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Do you work in Southwold?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and come to Southwold. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Common problems we fix in Southwold

Rust generally starts where water sits, by the plughole, beneath dripping taps or in an unrepaired chip. Water on bare metal causes rust that creeps under the surrounding enamel.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted

Aftercare tips

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Deal with new chips early, before rust can start.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and it can start to leak underneath.

What we do, step by step

On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job usually takes two to three hours for most chips. We clean up when we are done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, typically the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
