Bath repair in Star

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Bath repair at your home in Star

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. Each material is repaired a little differently: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. If you are dealing with a kit repair that didn’t last and rust spots around the plughole, we can usually put it right.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll sort it.

Looking after it afterwards

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it

Treat the repaired area like the rest of the bath: a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so early repair keeps the cost down.

How it works

On the day, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job typically takes a morning or an afternoon. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, especially around the waste, so repair chips early.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Questions from Star

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

Is a bath repair permanent?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It carries our one-year guarantee.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this frequently. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote with dates.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Can you match an avocado or pink bath?

Yes, we match coloured baths too. We tint the finish to your bath on site.

How quickly can you book me in?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. We take it back to sound metal, seal it, fill it and match the colour.

Should you replace it?

Many people think a damaged bath means a new one. Usually it doesn’t: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement. Our bath repair starts from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing normally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Why us?

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Colour mixed on the day to match

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • The material and finish
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Star. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Quotes from your pictures

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • One picture of the entire bath

Email us a picture of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, with your KY7 postcode, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

What we are called out for in Star

Rust tends to begin where water collects, by the plughole, beneath dripping taps or in an unrepaired chip. Water on bare metal causes rust that creeps under the surrounding enamel.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • A chipped rim or side
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • Chips under the taps

What to look for in a quote

  • How soon you can use it again
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • Aftercare advice

Honest limits

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.
