Bath repair in Whitburn

Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

About our bath repair in Whitburn

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. The method changes with the material: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. Common call-outs are for cracks in an acrylic bath and deep scratches in acrylic, in cast iron enamel, roll-top & freestanding and acrylic.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Questions from Whitburn

What do you need from me?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

What does bath repair cost?

Prices start from £95. Every job gets a fixed price based on photos of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your EH47 postcode.

Will the repair last?

Done properly, a repair lasts for years, and ours come with a one-year guarantee. Gentle cleaning helps.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

In most cases. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so access behind the panel is important.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Include pictures of each item.

How long before I can use the bath?

Most baths can be used the next day. We’ll tell you the exact curing time when we finish.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Looking after it afterwards

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, as they can leave rust marks. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and it can start to leak underneath.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, just like other baths.

Common problems we fix in Whitburn

A bath gets knocked about more than you’d think: everyday items get dropped into it all the time, and fittings press hard against the enamel. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Chips caused by builders

What your quote should include

  • How soon you can use it again
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Aftercare advice

Choosing a repair company

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

What affects the price in Whitburn

Prices start from £95. There is no area surcharge for Whitburn. The price reflects:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Access to the area
  • How hard the colour is to match

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Send photos for a quote

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To make it quick:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Details of any past repairs

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new bath costs more than the bath itself: removal and disposal, plumbing, a new panel, tiling and decorating. With a repair, it’s one visit and one price. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

How the visit works

When we visit, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take two to three hours for most chips. We clean up when we are done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can typically use the bath the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
