Bath repair in Windhill

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

What we work on

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel

About our bath repair in Windhill

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. A repair stops both. Our repair technicians work on roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel, and the jobs we see most are a kit repair that didn’t last and scuffs and scratches in the surface.

Every job is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Bath enamel chip by the waste, filled and colour matched (before and after)

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

What affects the price in Windhill

Prices start from £95. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We take into account:

  • How much damage there is
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The type of damage
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Windhill. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Getting a price from photos

Two or three clear photos are usually enough. It helps if you send:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • The material, if you know it
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos through our quote form or ring us. We will say immediately whether it can be repaired.

How the visit works

We turn up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. Once it has cured, typically by the day after, the bath is ready to use.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Getting a price

You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Do not leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Deal with new chips early, before rust sets in.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

Windhill questions

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes, we match coloured baths too. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Do you cover the whole of Bradford?

We cover the entire UK, including Windhill and the rest of Bradford. Send your postcode with your pictures and we’ll confirm dates.

Will the repair last?

Yes, if it’s prepared properly and the bath is sound. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.

Will the price change on the day?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Why repair rather than replace?

Swapping a damaged bath for a new one normally involves a plumber, removing the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and getting rid of the old bath. A repair deals only with the damage in one visit. Our bath repair starts from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Why us?

  • Everything repaired in place
  • Normally one visit, start to finish
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish

What we are called out for in Windhill

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On steel and cast iron baths, a chip that reaches the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • Chips under the taps
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
