Bath resealing near Beamish

Bath resealing in Beamish, done in place

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint opens fully, so the seal doesn’t tear when the bath is first used. If you’re dealing with mould you can’t clean out and old sealant that looks dirty, we can help, on baths, shower trays & enclosures and basins & vanity units alike.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there is a problem and we’ll sort it.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

What a repair can’t fix

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • A flexing bath
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms

What affects the price in Beamish

You’ll know the full cost before booking. We look at:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The material and finish
  • Whether we combine several jobs

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Getting a price from photos

Phone photos are fine, there is no need for anything special. Make sure they show:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • One picture of the entire bath or shower

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath or shower, include your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

What we do, step by step

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll get on with it. Most visits take around two hours.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. The joint is cleaned and any mould treated.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, taps included.

Preparing for the visit

  • Open a window if you can
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Advice

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Work for landlords and builders

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access and we’ll handle the rest.

Questions from Beamish

Will there be a smell?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working that clears as it cures.

How long does resealing take?

Most reseals take about two hours. It then needs time to cure.

What happens next?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

How quickly can you book me in?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

When can I use the bath after resealing?

You’ll get the curing time from us, generally around a day.

Aftercare tips

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Air the room after use

Avoid scraping the joints, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Reseal before water gets in. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.
