How we handle bath resealing in Gib Heath

A good reseal is all about preparation: old silicone removed, mould treated, the joint cleaned and dried. Only then does the new sealant go on, as one neat, continuous bead. Typical jobs include discoloured, yellow sealant and gaps in the seal, across basins & vanity units, kitchen worktops & sinks and baths.

Every repair is covered by a one-year guarantee.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

What bath resealing costs

Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many areas need work
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The material and finish

A repair usually costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Send pictures for a quote

Phone photos are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Just make sure we can see:

  • A wider photo showing the entire bath or shower
  • The material, if you know it
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath or shower, we can price the job the same day in most cases.

Honest limits

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. We cannot fix:

  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What we work on

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units

Questions from Gib Heath

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Can pets and children be at home?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

What information do you need?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Can you quote from photos?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the photos can’t show what we need.

Different materials, different repairs

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, with the joint fully dried first.

Why reseal now?

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It soon peels, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

Why book with us

  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • One visit for most repairs
  • One price list for the entire UK
  • Rooms protected and left tidy

See our prices page.

How the visit works

From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes around two hours, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. The joint is cleaned and any mould treated.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, including around the taps.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Open a window if you can

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep the joints dry
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Let steam out after showers

Avoid scraping the joints, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Reseal before water gets in. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

For landlords and businesses

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access and we’ll handle the rest.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.
