Materials and what they mean for the repair

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

Bath resealing at your home in Hargate

Resealing is one of the simplest ways to protect your bathroom. Failed sealant lets water get where it shouldn’t, and resealing puts a stop to that. We work on basins & vanity units, wet rooms and baths, and people most often call us about silicone coming away from the tiles and discoloured, yellow sealant.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Your questions about bath resealing in Hargate

How do I get a price for bath resealing in Hargate?

We give a fixed price from your photos. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your NR16 postcode.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

Are you accredited?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. If photos don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?

Mostly moisture and poor ventilation. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.

Do you charge for travel?

There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

Do you need bath resealing in Hargate?

No sealant lasts for ever. Each shower leaves moisture and soap behind, which mould loves, and the joint flexes each time the bath fills.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Unsealed corners
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Black spots in the silicone
  • Gaps in the seal

Our hiring checklist

Is resealing worth it?

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. We remove the old sealant completely. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Why Hargate clients choose us

  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Fixed prices from your photos
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Everything repaired in place

See our prices page.

How to care for the repair

To keep it looking its best:

  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off

Good ventilation is the best protection, and dry the joints after bathing.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. It may be more than a reseal, so we’ll tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

The process

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we will take it from there. The job generally runs to about two hours for a bath.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Advice

Some jobs are not right for a repair, including:

  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • Hidden water damage

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Hargate

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
