Bath resealing in Helmington Row

Bath resealing in Helmington Row, done in place

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old, which is why many DIY jobs peel. Our repair technicians work on wet rooms, baths and kitchen worktops & sinks, and the jobs we see most are an untidy old seal and stained silicone.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re covered after the visit.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

How it works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take around two hours, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. The joint is cleaned and any mould treated.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, including around the taps.

How to prepare

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Advice

FAQs for Helmington Row

Is there a call-out fee?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

What happens if you find more damage?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

How long does resealing take?

A bath or shower generally takes a couple of hours. Leave it to cure before use.

What happens next?

You’ll get a fixed quote back, plus dates. You’re under no obligation.

My seal keeps tearing. Why?

The bath or tray is probably flexing. If it keeps happening, the support may need fixing.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders in Helmington Row.

Work for landlords and builders

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which matters when someone is living in the home.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. We can visit several plots in one trip.

Is resealing worth it?

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It soon peels, and mould stays trapped behind it. We remove the old sealant completely. A repair normally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.

How to look after the repair

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Let steam out after showers

Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Reseal before water gets in. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

10 questions to ask before you book

How we price bath resealing

There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • The material
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How many items we do on one visit

There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How to get a fixed quote

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Any details about the material
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and you will get a fixed price back. Quotes are free and you’re under no obligation.
