How we handle bath resealing in Hornby

Resealing is quick, but it transforms the look. Clean, white joints make a bathroom look cared for, and they protect the walls and floor. If you’re dealing with silicone smeared on tiles and gaps in the seal, we can typically put it right, on basins & vanity units, baths and shower trays & enclosures alike.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we’ll sort it.

The process

When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job generally takes around two hours. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Questions from Hornby

Do you cover Hornby?

Yes, we do. Technicians travel to Hornby from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Is the work guaranteed?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

What happens after I send photos?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote with dates.

How do I stop mould in sealant?

Generally poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

How long does silicone take to cure?

Normally about a day later. We confirm before we leave.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first, so mention it when you send photos.

Work for landlords and builders

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal
  • Let steam out after showers
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Ventilate the bathroom well

Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and do not stand bottles on the seal.

Reseal before water gets in. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

What bath resealing costs

There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Access to the area

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Send photos for a quote

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • The material, if you know it
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Details of any past repairs

Send us a picture of the damage and one of the whole item, and tell us you’re in Hornby, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.
