Bath resealing in Knighton

How we handle bath resealing in Knighton

A good reseal is all about preparation: old silicone removed, mould treated, the joint cleaned and dried. Only then does the new sealant go on, as one neat, continuous bead. If you’re dealing with missing sealant behind the taps and water getting behind the bath or tray, we can help, on baths, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures alike.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Why reseal now?

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. We remove the old sealant completely. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

What we are called out for in Knighton

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning cannot get it all out.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • Sealant that’s split or lifting
  • Damp near the bath
  • An untidy old seal
  • Missing sealant behind the taps

How to compare quotes

How we price bath resealing

You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • How many areas need work
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You will see the full price before you book.

Getting a price from photos

You can take the pictures on your phone. Ensure they show:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

You do not need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Common questions in Knighton

Do you come to Knighton?

We do. We send a technician to Knighton for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Normally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Why does mould come back so fast?

Generally poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. Mould-resistant silicone and good ventilation help.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Movement is the usual cause, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We fill the bath before sealing it.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Open a window after bathing

Good ventilation is the best protection, and wipe the joints after use to keep mould away.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.

The process

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you are not left guessing. On site, it takes about two hours for a bath in most cases. We leave the room clean and you will know when it can be used.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

When a repair is not the answer

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.
