Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

About our bath resealing in Lavernock

A proper reseal starts with removing every trace of the old silicone. New silicone won’t bond to old, which is why many DIY jobs peel. Our technicians work on shower trays & enclosures, kitchen worktops & sinks and baths, and the jobs we see most are sealant that’s split or lifting and leaks at the edges.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

What happens on the day

You do not need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. It usually takes about two hours for a bath, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, taps included.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Open a window if you can

Advice

Landlord and trade work in Lavernock

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Common questions in Lavernock

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders in Lavernock.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

What happens if you find more damage?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. If there’s more, we will tell you before starting.

Why does mould come back so fast?

Damp is the cause. Run the fan, dry the joints and the new seal stays cleaner for longer.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We come back with a fixed price, typically with dates to choose from. You are under no obligation.

Is resealing worth it?

Resealing costs very little. Leaving failed sealant can let water cause damage that costs far more to fix. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Lavernock. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

How to look after the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Keep the joints dry

Use the extractor fan, wipe the joints dry after use, and clean them regularly with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, so we’ll tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

Prices and what affects them

We give every job a fixed quote from photos. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

How to get a fixed price

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • The material, if you know it
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Most customers in Lavernock get their price from pictures. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

When we’d advise against a repair

A repair is not right for every job, including:

  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Hidden water damage
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before you book.
