How we handle bath resealing in Toad Row

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old, which is why many DIY jobs peel. Our technicians work on baths, shower trays & enclosures and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are missing sealant behind the taps and black mould in the sealant.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

When we would advise against a repair

Some jobs are not right for a repair, including:

  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units

DIY kit or professional repair?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

Is resealing worth it?

Compared with repairing water damage, resealing is cheap. It’s quick, tidy and protects your home. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before booking, with nothing added on the day.

Why book with us

How the visit works

Here’s how a visit normally runs: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for around two hours. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and how to care for it.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Advice

Different materials, different repairs

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

For landlords and businesses

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Toad Row as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it usually costs far less than a refit.

Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner

Run the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Black mould in sealant isn’t just unsightly; it shows moisture is getting in. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.
