About our bath resealing in Treflys

Resealing is one of the simplest ways to protect your bathroom. Old, split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, and resealing puts a stop to that. Common call-outs are for a messy previous reseal and gaps in the seal, in kitchen worktops & sinks, baths and shower trays & enclosures.

Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before booking.

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Leave the sealant to cure for the time we give you, normally around 24 hours.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, and we’ll say if you need a builder or plumber.

What affects the price in Treflys

We charge the same across the UK, including Treflys. What changes the price is:

  • How many areas need work
  • What the surface is made of
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Getting a price from photos

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To help us price it:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

To get a price, send two or three photos through our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

When a repair isn’t the answer

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Hidden water damage
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

The process

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for around two hours from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, taps included.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Why it’s worth resealing in Treflys

Resealing is a small job. Putting off a reseal can let water reach the walls and floor, and that damage costs much more to fix. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.
