When a kit can work
A kit can make a small, shallow chip on a white bath look tidier, especially somewhere you don’t look closely. If the chip is clean, dry and has no rust, it’s worth a try.
Why kit repairs often fail
- Colour. Kits come in a few shades of white. Baths vary from bright white to cream, so the patch often shows.
- Rust. If rust isn’t fully removed and sealed, it keeps spreading under the filler and the repair lifts.
- Preparation. Soap residue and moisture stop fillers bonding.
- Cracks and holes. Filling a crack in acrylic from the top doesn’t stop it moving, so it usually reopens.
Fixing a failed DIY repair
We often repair over failed kit repairs. We remove the old filler, treat any rust and start again, so a failed DIY attempt doesn’t stop a professional repair.
