How hard water affects your bath

Limescale, dull patches and what you can do about them.

What hard water does

Hard water leaves limescale where it dries, often under the taps and around the waste. Over time, scale and the scrubbing used to remove it dull the surface, so it marks faster and is harder to clean.

Cleaning without damage

  • Wipe the bath dry after use to stop scale building up.
  • Use a limescale remover suitable for your bath’s surface, following the label, and rinse well.
  • Avoid scourers and abrasive powders.

When cleaning stops working

If the surface stays rough or dull however you clean it, the glaze or enamel is worn. A full re-enamel or tray resurface gives it a smooth, glossy finish again.
