Advice

How long does bath resurfacing take?

What happens on the day, when you can use the bath again, and how to prepare.

On the day

Most baths are resurfaced in a single visit. Preparation (masking, cleaning, repairs and priming) takes much of the time, then the new finish is sprayed in several coats. A heavily pitted bath may need a second day for extra filling and sanding.

When you can use it again

Usually the next day. Checkatrade’s guide gives 24 to 48 hours for curing in general; we’ll tell you the exact time for the products we use when we finish.

The smell

Spray coatings have a strong solvent smell while they’re applied. We ventilate the room and use extraction, and the smell fades as the finish cures. Keep the bathroom door closed and the window open, and keep pets and anyone with breathing problems away from the area on the day.

How to prepare

  • Clear toiletries, mats and shower curtains from around the bath
  • Make sure we can park reasonably close by
  • Plan to use another bathroom, or shower elsewhere, until the next day
  • Tell us about any previous resurfacing, as an old coating may need stripping

Afterwards
