Common problems we fix in Mail

Avocado, pampas and pink suites were everywhere in the 70s and 80s, and plenty are still in good condition. It’s normally the colour that dates them, not the condition.

Send us a picture if you notice any of these:

  • A dated coloured suite you’d like in white
  • Selling or letting a home with an old suite
  • Faded or patchy colour
  • A suite that does not match a new bathroom

Questions to ask before you book

Coloured bath resurfacing at your home in Mail

Most suites take one or two days. We resurface the bath, basin and tray in place, so there is no plumbing or tiling. Typical jobs include faded or patchy colour and a dated coloured suite you’d like in white, across avocado, pampas and pink baths, coloured basins and whole bathroom suites.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover. Treat it like any resurfaced bath: gentle cleaners, no suction mats.

Repair or replace in Mail?

Swapping a coloured suite for a white one means new sanitaryware, a plumber and a tiler. Resurfacing changes the colour without taking anything out. Prices start from £350. We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Mail. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Why book with us

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Free fixed quotes from pictures
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface

See our prices page and resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

What coloured bath resurfacing costs

Resurfacing from £350. There’s no area surcharge for Mail. The price reflects:

  • The material and finish
  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many areas need work
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Getting a price from photos

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

For landlords and businesses

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Can I fix it myself?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

When we’d advise against a repair

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • The inside of a toilet bowl, unless we’ve agreed it will last
  • Items cracked right through
  • Fittings and taps (these are masked, not recoloured)

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Coloured basins
  • Whole bathroom suites
  • Avocado, pampas and pink baths
  • Coloured shower trays

Questions from Mail

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses across the Shetland Islands.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, we frequently do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

How do I book?

Photos of the damage, a picture of the entire suite and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

The process

We begin by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. After that, protection goes down around the work area and we start. You can expect it to take one to two days for a full suite, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.

  1. The room is protected and ventilated.
  2. Each item is cleaned, degreased and any chips repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new finish in white or your chosen colour.
  5. We leave everything to cure, generally until the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
