The Dunks: your questions answered

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

What do you need from me?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Do you work in The Dunks?

Yes, we do. Repair technicians travel to The Dunks from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Do you charge for travel?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

Can a coloured bath be made white?

Yes. We resurface it in white with it left in place.

Which areas do you work in?

We cover the entire UK, including The Dunks and the rest of Wrexham. Just include your postcode and we’ll confirm dates.

What a repair can’t fix

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • The inside of a toilet bowl, unless we’ve agreed it will last
  • Items cracked right through
  • Fittings and taps (these are masked, not recoloured)

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

How it works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. It usually takes a day or two, depending on how many items, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. The room is protected and ventilated.
  2. Next we degrease everything and fix chips.
  3. The surface is prepared and primed.
  4. The new white, or other colour, finish is sprayed on.
  5. We leave everything to cure, generally until the following day.

Advice

What we are called out for in The Dunks

Coloured suites were fitted in huge numbers in the 1970s and 80s, and plenty are still in good condition. The problem is generally the colour, not the bath.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Faded or patchy colour
  • A dated coloured suite you’d like in white
  • A suite that does not match a new bathroom
  • Selling or letting a home with an old suite

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • What prep work is covered
  • When it can be used again
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match

Our hiring checklist

What affects the price in The Dunks

Prices start from £350. You’ll know the full cost before booking. We take into account:

  • Access to the area
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Doing more than one item at once

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Send pictures for a quote

Two or three clear photos are usually enough. Try to include:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Any details about the material
  • One picture of the whole suite
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them to us with your postcode, and you will get a fixed quote back. Quotes are free and you are under no obligation.

Should you replace it?

Swapping a coloured suite for a white one means a plumber, a tiler and new taps. Resurfacing changes the colour without taking anything out. Prices start from £350. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You will see the full price before booking, with no extras added later.

What you get with us

  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • Everything repaired in place
  • Usually one visit, start to finish

DIY repairs versus a professional job

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.
