About our non-slip bath coating in New England

The coating is clear and textured, so the bath looks much the same. It’s popular with older people, families and holiday lets. Common call-outs are for resurfaced baths that are now too smooth and safety for older or less mobile people, across wet room floors (ask us), resurfaced baths and enamelled baths.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right. A soft brush and mild cleaner keep it clean. Do not use abrasive pads on the textured area.

Before and after: an old shower tray refinished by Surface Doctor

The process

Once we are through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes a morning or an afternoon, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We start by degreasing the area where you stand.
  2. We mask out the area to be treated.
  3. The clear textured coating is applied.
  4. The masking comes off to leave a neat edge.
  5. The coating is left to cure before use, usually overnight.

How to prepare

  • Open a window if you can
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Getting a price

Advice

Repair or replace in New England?

Instead, you could go for a new textured bath or tray, or a bath mat, which traps water and needs cleaning. A coating treats your existing bath or tray. Compared with replacing, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Why New England customers choose us

  • One price list for the whole UK
  • One-year guarantee on every repair
  • Work done at your home or business
  • We leave the room as we found it

What affects the price in New England

There’s no area surcharge for New England. What changes the price is:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Access to the area
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The material and finish

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Getting a price from pictures

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Most clients in New England get their price from photos. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Can I fix it myself?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

How to compare quotes

New England: your questions answered

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Will I see the coating?

Very little: the treated area looks slightly matt.

What happens after I send pictures?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote with dates.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can landlords book you?

Yes, often. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

What information do you need?

Photos of the damage, a picture of the entire bath or shower tray and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.

When a repair is not the answer

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • Surfaces that are already damaged or peeling (these need repairing first)
  • Textured areas still wet or recently cleaned with oily products
  • Outdoor surfaces

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
